Her Story
Shannon Choi is a senior at Irvine High School in Orange County. She is the recipient of Heritage Award(Math) 2021-2022, which has motivated her to engage in volunteering job as a math tutor at Kid Works. She has also volunteered as a teaching assistant at both KAC(Korean American Cultural Center) and Bethel Korean School: a Korean class for adult beginners and a folk art class for adults with special need, a Korean class for 5 to 6 year old young children respectively.
When she volunteers. she focuses on listening to what the students need. supporting their emotional aspect. She says, “I am truly grateful for the fulfilling feeling I get through listening to others around us and sharing my talent with them, especially who need help and support. It makes me volunteer again and again. It’s not an option for me any more.”
As a co-founder & a president of YFC, she will continue her passion for supporting people in need in the community. She will also be a dedicated supporter for YFC, looking forward to seeing YFC bear fruits that can make the community a better place.
She loves being with children, dreaming to be an elementary school teacher who listens to the kids’ voice from their heart.. She can speak Korean and Chinese and has interest in bilingual curriculum. She also began to learn Spanish recently.
In her free time, she enjoys drawing and painting in her art studio. She is also a gym lover: She leads her healthy life by strengthening both her body and mind through work-out 3-4 days a week.
She is the winner of Presidential Volunteer Service Award (Bronze) and Congressional Award (Bronze).
